Unlike the movie “Olympus Has Fallen,”
the night of April 20, 2013 was not illuminated by gunfire and detonating bombs
but colorful lights to welcome the descent of Gods and Goddesses.
The stage was a spectacle of colors and
costumes paraded by able bodies shaped and chiseled to perfection. Each
contestant emerged on the stage dressed with flamboyant grace and
well-rehearsed poise and measured smiles. The gods and goddesses were so generous
that they blessed the audience with clear and graphic memory of temptation. The
goddesses tempted the crowd while the gods, teased. And that was only the beginning.
Next portion of the competition was
even more sinful. The gods and goddesses changed from their playful costumes to
the spectators’ favorite get-up – the swim wear. The Victory Theater Park
was enveloped with screams and hoots as tight and fat-free bodies started
lining up the stage. It was a centerfold of skimpiness. At this point,
temperature reached a dangerous height. Spontaneous Human Combustion was a high
possibility. The high temperature was doused by the following segment, the
presentation of the Talent Portion finalists which was easily won by Reiv
Hernandes (who incidentally, was
adjusted the Male Grand Winner), who did an interpretative dance piece (he’s
into American Dance Sports).
It was in the Formal Wear segment were
class and sophistication reigned supreme. The audience gawked at the colorful
gowns that were carried with royal grace by well-coiffured ladies escorted by
dashing gentlemen. It was during this time where The Question and Answer
segued. Each one nervously offered their two cents’ worth on just about
anything.
Considering the pressure of the event,
they gave an impressive show.
The stressful experience of waiting for
the announcement of winners was heart-stopping. The crowd was getting restless
and the contestants, extremely exhausted.
After the long list of special and minor awards, the finalists were
trimmed to ten. The atmosphere reached fever pitch as the runners-up were
awarded. Then, finally it happened amid nervous screams from the audience.
Reive Hernandez and Michelle Abcede were adjudged this year’s Manila ’s Sexiest. Tears flowed. Loud cries of
gratitude and relief doubled. It was pandemonium.

production staff, technical crew and of course to you, Gretchen! See you again
